A Night on the Town is Rod Stewart's seventh album, released in 1976. The cover art is based on Pierre-Auguste Renoir's painting Bal du moulin de la Galette, with Stewart inserted in the centre in period costume. On 30 June 2009, Rhino reissued the album as a two-disc CD with bonus tracks. Stewart performed "Big Bayou" regularly with The Faces during their final US tour the previous year, although that version was based on the one Ronnie Wood released on his solo album, Now Look.
Melbourne Robert "Bob" Cranshaw (December 3, 1932 – November 2, 2016) was an American jazz bassist. His career spanned the heyday of Blue Note Records to his recent involvement with the Musicians Union. He is perhaps best known for his long association with Sonny Rollins. Cranshaw performed in Rollins's working band on and off for over five decades, starting with a live appearance at the 1959 Playboy jazz festival in Chicago and on record with the 1962 album The Bridge.
Head Start Bobby Hutcherson Album: Happenings - Bobby Hutcherson/Herbie Hancock/Bob Cranshaw/Joe Chambers (1967). Bob Cranshaw turns 80 today. See him in this video remembering Lee Morgan & recording The Sidewinder. In a more than five-decade career that began in the late 1950s - when he started a 50-plus-year stint performing and recording more than 2 dozen albums with saxophone player, bandleader Sonny Rollins - Cranshaw’s signature light touch on the upright and electric bass could be heard on a galaxy of recordings from some of the jazz and pop.

Bruce Hornsby's hardest-rocking album, A Night on the Town announces that he is heading into a different direction in its first few notes. John Mellencamp's producer Don Gehman gives the sound, especially John Molo's drums, a feel reminiscent of Mellencamp's best work. The material here is among Hornsby's best, and guest players include Jerry Garcia, tenor saxman Wayne Shorter, banjo virtuoso Béla Fleck, vocalist Shawn Colvin (before she was known), and jazz bass legend Charlie Haden
But this album’s best song, Tonight’s the Night, is defensible both logically and technically. One of many tributes to Sam Cooke, Stewart’s soul music inspiration, it is also his closest approximation of that sound. The strings, for once, are perfect - only Cooke or Stewart could swing through such syrup with so little effort and so much power. The guitar figure has the kind of pop elegance that characterized Abbey Road; the drumming is as confident as the singing.
