Peter Kingsbery is an American singer songwriter who cofounded the band Cock Robin in the 1980s. He grew up in Austin (Texas) where he studied classical music. He moved to Nashville (Tennessee) where he began his career as a musician (he accompanied Brenda Lee on piano on a few tours) and then to Los Angeles at the end of the '70s where he began a career as a singer/songwriter. After signing with a new label (Barclay), he recorded his first solo album A Different Man in 1991 in California that he co-produced with his friend, drummer Pat Mastelotto. Kingsbery broadened his skills by not only playing the piano or organ but also the accordion. Breaking with the style of Cock Robin, he introduced more classical instruments such as wind instruments (saxophone, flute, trombone and euphonium) or traditional as the oud (or lute, giving Slavic accents to the song Hélène).

Kingsbery's debut is as impressive as his finale with old band Cock Robin. Okay, there's no Anna LaCazio, a shame, but life goes on and it certainly goes on here. Opening with the zany "Do a Dance," the shuffle of the title track, the horny "What You Are," and "Helene" (which doubtlessly went down a storm with his French fanbase). The tall Texan with the high forehead proceeds with his Daryl Hall hat on for "Five Fingers" and the lovely "Love in Motion" (not the Icehouse song)
A Different Man Lyrics. Album/Collection: A Different Man. Online Since: 07-Nov-2002. That was the beginning An almost perfect match That would never come apart I was a dreamer A poet from the past But every word came from my heart I might have been precious I might have been tough I could have been meaner then Or just a little rough But I would have died for you And that was a different man. Forever and ever All ahead full Of these days I have no regrets So wild and abandoned Deep under your spell Of these hours are no second-best I might have been freer then I could be a fool Maybe I was younger And had nothing to lose I might have cried easier That was a different man.

Like other American singer/songwriters of note eg. David Baerwald, Peter Kingsbery has gone pretty much unoticed in his homeland. Having gained a degree in composition Kingsbery next found some fortune in writing and singing on other artists records; The Allman Brothers and Stephanie Mills in the early eighties. But it is as part of Cock Robin he is best known. The most successful being A Different Man in '91 and the most diversely satisfying Pretty Ballerina six years later. Between his own records he produced his biggest post Cock Robin hit with "Only The Very Best", a French number 2 in 1993, kept from the top by child star Jordy. The song was lifted from Tycoon, an English adaptation of the stage show by the legendary Tim Rice.
