After the successful reissue of Marillion‘s 1985 album Misplaced Childhood in 2017, Parlophone will reissue the British quintet’s fourth studio album Clutching at Straws in November. Like its predecessor, the album was produced by Chris Kimsey and it delivered three top forty hits (‘Incommunicado’, ‘Sugar Mice’ and ‘Warm Wet Circles’). Some of these live performance have appeared before, on The Thieving Magpie live album, although it should be noted that this is a new mix for 2018 by Michael Hunter. The blu-ray features the stereo remix and a . mix although not by Steven Wilson this time, but by Bradfield and Mackintosh, again.
Discs Two and Three contain Marillion’s December 19th, 1987 concert at The Edinburgh Playhouse, remixed by Michael Hunter. Disc Four contains the demos from the 1999 EMI 2CD remaster, along with four previously unreleased demos of Clutching material. The blu-ray contains 48/24 audio of the remix of the album in stereo and . So there you have it, a six CD retrospective of Marillion live during the Fish years; from struggling band playing the clubs to multi million album selling international success story; if you're an established fan of the band, this is without a doubt a full five star release, a true essential purchase - seen overall, though, even given the sound problems & nervous performances. on disc 1, and the usual warts & all qualities of any live album without overdubs, this set still stands up as a solid 4 star release - a good reminder of exactly how good they were in the early years.
