2002 is the first compilation album by the rap group Tha Dogg Pound. It comprises unreleased material recorded by Tha Dogg Pound while they were signed on to Death Row Records, remixed and updated by the then-head producer Cold 187um. Tha Dogg Pound were signed to Dillinger's . Recordz and released their own album that year called Dillinger & Young Gotti
Removing the horns puts Hunter's guitar in the spotlight, and he rises to the occasion, fulfilling the promise he's displayed on all of his previous releases. There's a stronger groove here than on any of Hunter's previous records, but what's remarkable about the album is the way he keeps the groove rolling while pushing the music into unpredictable, adventurous territory.

Pound for Pound was a studio project with Stefon Harris (vibraphone) John Santos (percussion) and Scott Amendola (drums), perceived as a groove project (no horns, please). Claiming inspiration from hip hop, specifically the Wu Tang Clan and A Tribe Called Quest, there's no mistaking the mood created on Pound for Pound's 1998 recording, Return of the Candyman as anything other than what it is: The "funkification" of the utterly innovative, improvisational Hunter sound
