If you are a fan of Ella Fitzgerald, this contains 16 tracks of the incomparable Ella singing standards. Even if you have never heard of Ella this is a great gateway into her style with jazz. Recorded between 1956 and 1964, Fitzgerald's finest years, the CD includes arrangements by Nelson Riddle, Billy May, and Buddy Bregman, as well as a superb rendering of "I've Got It Bad" with the Ellington orchestra and Johnny Hodges. This album came quickly & was not damaged. I highly recommend this album & this seller. If You are a fan of Ella Fitzgerald,or just like swing music or upbeat jazz this album is a must have. 2 people found this helpful.

The Ella Fitzgerald Song Books were a series of eight studio albums released in irregular intervals between 1956 and 1964, recorded by the American jazz singer Ella Fitzgerald, supported by a variety of orchestras, big bands, and small jazz combos. The eight albums are as follows, with arrangers in parentheses: Ella Fitzgerald Sings the Cole Porter Song Book (1956) (Buddy Bregman). Ella Fitzgerald Sings the Rodgers & Hart Song Book (1956) (Bregman).

1959), Ella Fitzgerald Sings the Harold Arlen Song Book (1961), Ella Fitzgerald Sings the Jerome Kern Song Book (1963), and finally, Ella Fitzgerald Sings the Johnny Mercer Song Book (1964). The audio contents have been completely remastered and each title has been expanded - wherever possible - to include previously unissued material. In terms of packaging, the producers went to extreme lengths to create exact reproductions of all the vintage LP jacket artwork. As previously mentioned, The Complete Ella Fitzgerald Song Books (1993) received the nod for Best Historical Recording at the 36th Grammy Awards in 1994. Track Listing - Disc 1. Sample.

Ella Fitzgerald defies the often-held misconceptions that singers aren’t as virtuosic as their instrumentalist counterparts. Known especially for her immaculate intonation, range and formidable scat solos, Fitzgerald got her big break at age 17 after winning an amateur contest at the Apollo Theater in Harlem. Fitzgerald passed away of diabetes in 1996, but her amazing career spanned most of her 79 years. She is widely studied and revered as one of the finest singers in pop and jazz (and Jazz at Lincoln Center’s upcoming weekend-long celebration of her life is out to prove it), and here are 14 of best tracks to prove it. 14. Into Each Life Some Rain Must Fall This recording features Fitzgerald with the Ink Spots, a popular group of the ‘30s and ‘40s. On these early takes, you can hear how young and fresh her voice is, and also what natural style and ability to collaborate she always had.
