In 2009, Yeasayer contributed "Tightrope" to the AIDS benefit album Dark Was the Night produced by the Red Hot Organization. Backed by labels Secretly Canadian and Mute Records, Yeasayer released their second studio album, Odd Blood, in February 2010, featuring more pop music influences than earlier work. The band addressed the changes sonically in an in depth interview with The Quietus, with Wolf Tuton stating: "I think the similar influences are there, but we have not focused on the same tones. The live album Good Evening Washington . 0 Club followed late in 2013. The band resurfaced early in 2016 with singles from their fourth long-player, Amen & Goodbye, released that April via Mute Records. Still offering offbeat sound explorations, core members Keating, Wilder, and Tuton were joined on the album by guests including Suzzy Roche of the Roches and guitarist Steve Marion (aka Delicate Steve).
The 9:30 Club (originally named Nightclub 9:30, also known simply as the 9:30) is a nightclub and concert venue in Washington, . In 2018 the 9:30 Club was named one of the 10 best live music venues in America by Rolling Stone Magazine. The club was originally housed in the ground floor rear room of the Atlantic Building at 930 F Street NW, in the city's downtown area, where it opened on May 31, 1980, with a legal standing capacity of only 199 patrons
To visually interpret the album, Yeasayer collaborated with renowned sculptor David Altmejd (whose artwork is a major influence on the band) to create the gatefold artwork. The teasers released prior to ‘I Am Chemistry’ contained some of the sculptures Altmejd created while listening to the bands new album. This was a dream come true for the band and the full artwork is utterly spectacular.
