Julia Sarr - Patrice Larose - Set Luna mp3 flac
Julia Sarr & Patrice Larose. Cheikh Lo - Degg Gui (feat.
Throughout the album Set Luna, and in the warm engagement with her audiences which marks her stagecraft, Julia Sarr modestly exults in her femininity, her songs remaining half-hidden, as veiled treasures, in a state of anticipation, enveloped by reserve, which Romain Gary said is to a woman’s voice what grace is to the body. The Sarr-Larose duo – it would be criminal to attempt to pigeonhole them into any facile world-music category – has opened one of the most novel musical dialogues to have emerged – in any country, in any tradition – in a great while. Patrice Larose’s playing is neat-fingered and unassuming yet rhythmically unfettered, his round-toned, slightly buzzy acoustic guitar makes quicksilver runs between melodic contexts, time-signatures and ports of call.
There are exceptions - "Set Luna Djamondji," a duet with superstar Youssou N'Dour, is enlivened by his soaring voice (although his singing isn't especially intense), and the closer, "Flor Para M," possesses a certain charm - but for the most part the tracks march by in a pleasant but hardly outstanding manner. Sarr has a good voice, with plenty of character, smooth but with a little girt, but you feel she's not being tested here, which is odd, since she wrote virtually all the material.
Set Luna (version commerciale). Overview (current section). Do you know what kind of music this is?
Label: No Format! It should come as no surprise that Sarr sang with Lokua Kanza for 12 years. Sarr's remarkably clear, jazzy, unaffected voice recalls his, while her pairing with flamenco guitarist Patrice Larose is inspired. Sure, she's Senegalese and duets with Youssou N'Dour, but this album's all her own: smart, sure, unusual and about as far from Afro-pop as it's possible to get. Sarah Bardeen.
